How to (maybe) launch a blog business in the music industry

How to (maybe) launch a blog business in the music industry
(a step by step guide of every action I take)

Ok, I have been listening to podcasts on this topic now for months.  As I go I will add all of the information I find potentially useful in my post of resources and ideas.  That being said

-I listen to the podcast Side Hustle Nation by Nick Loper. He has TONS of resources on his site HERE.

-I listen to the podcast Smart Passive Income by Pat Flynn.  Once again, TONS of resources can be found on his site HERE

So if you want to learn about building a business, go to their websites and dig around. I am sure you will find a ton of useful information there.

Here is what I have DONE so far to start this blog/business

I went to www.blogger.com and signed up for a free blog page which you found already! THANK YOU FOR READING!!!

I wrote my definition post, it is basically defining the things I will try to answer on this blog.  I also tried to define my audience there too so please let me know if I missed something.

I wrote my "about me" post which is exactly what it sounds like.

I started and published my fishbone post, which I will keep working on.  A fishbone post is basically a post with a bunch of ideas and a paragraph or so on each one along with links in most of them.  I will continue to add things, request affiliate links once the site traffic picks up, and also add links back to articles I wrote (which is the ultimate goal here) to add value for my audience.
****while writing this, when I wanted to link to an article I did not write, I emailed the owner of the post I wanted to link to and asked permission to link to their site.***

I shared my blog page on Facebook and Linkdin, and found a couple Facebook groups on music business where I shared my blog page.  I also went onto Quora and Reddit and found threads about the music business and answered a few questions and shared the link to my blog page.  All in all, marketing this took me about 30 minutes.  This got me 20 page views.  I will eventually set up a Facebook page and group for the blog and my audience and hopefully that will help me drive more traffic to my site.

I went to sonic bids and requested affiliate program information and received an email in return giving me the email address of the person I need to speak with.  I am not really ready to do that yet.

Today I started this article.  I will update it daily with all of the things I do as well as update any data on my site metrics.

-I signed up for Pat Flynn's news letter on www.smartpassiveincome.com.  He sent me 3 awesome guides and a few free courses.  Wow. That was unexpected.  I once heard how much money he makes and I am amazed that he is giving all of this stuff away for free.  NO I AM NOT IN ANY AFFILIATED WITH PAT FLYNN OR THE SMART PASSIVE INCOME BLOG OR WEBSITE. I am just a subscriber and listener.

-I shared my blog page on a facebook group called Mindfull and Ruthless.  I also got a response from someone on my Berklee College of Music Business Foundations facebook page saying thanks.  I am up to 25 views, (I think I am responsible for 4 of those).  No followers yet.  Progress is progress and I am taking being north of 20 views as a win.

I shared my page again on facebook and got another 2 page views.

Over the last few days I have not been able to do much for the blog itself as far as actionable items are concerned.  I have however been networking, listening to podcasts, and taking notes. I will eventually get all of my notes down in a separate blog post.

So, Down to the details,
I called on some old friends of mine who are currently launching a business in the music industry called Jinks Music Universe, where they teach, record, and write music as well as host something called the Genesis Party where they set up a recording booth in a public place and people stop by and record something adding to the song as it is created.  It is awesome.  They are located in Pensacola Fl by the way. Definitely get in contact with them if you are ever in the area, they are great.

I also sent out a few emails for a post I am working on called the influencer post where I have asked them a question and will compile their answers and post their answers shortly.

I have been listening to the Side Hustle School podcast from Nick Loper and Side Hustle Nation which is the first podcast I came across dealing with starting a business as a side hustle.  I also listened to the Smart Passive Income Podcast with Pat Flynn which deals with the best ways to do business online and build a passive income which will hopefully be a side effect of helping people through this blog.

I shared my article 20 things you can do to launch your career in the music industry on my own Facebook page and am now up to 48 page views.

***I FORGOT*** I received a response from David Wiebe from www.musicentrepreneurhq.com for my influencer roundup post!  If you read this, Thank you David!

today I emailed the musicgoat blog on musicgoat.com.
I also shared my blog post "20 things" on Linkdin with the hashtag #musicindustry, and I am now up to 62 views!  Small win but I am over 50. I think thats cool.

I also listened to Pat Flynn interview Dr. Shannon Irvine at https://www.smartpassiveincome.com/podcasts/the-story-you-tell-yourself-with-dr-shannon-irvine/
about how the mindset we have, our subconscious story, can shape our thought processes, our attitude, our actions, and ultimately our lives.  It was a great episode.  Pat, if you ever read this, thank you for doing what you do.  And.....well....I think I will have a win to talk about as well.  If you ever do, PLEASE leave a comment on the blog so I will know.

Since my last update I listened to two podcasts, one on SHN (side hustle nation) and one on SPI (smart passive income). I answered two questions on reddit, and shared two posts on reddit in the musicbusiness subreddit, and two on twitter both with hashtags of #musicbusiness, #musicindustry, #musicmarketing, #musicbiz, and #business.  I have had over 50 page views, although the number of people looking at my information is not that high, I believe page views is counted not as 1 person 1 page view, but 1 person, 4 pages, 4 page views.  Either way, here are the stats:

I HAVE HAD EXACTLY 100 PEOPLE VIEW MY BLOG! That is exciting to me!

Page views yesterday: 27
Page views today: 36
Lifetime page views: 146

Traffic sources ranked in order

Reddit.com
bandlauncher
linkedin
facebook
twitter
google

from 10 different countries.

I will do this weekly
